Memories from Buenos Aires!

“My beloved Buenos Aires / Mi Buenos Aires querido” is much more than the name of the most famous argentinian tango. It represents my feeling for my city. 15 years ago, when I was learning how to calculate a GRP cost, I would have never imagined that some day I could have some of the most world top class media people at Unilever in my home town.

But you see, dreams come true….

Apart from working, which we did and a lot, we managed to visit places, to taste local flavours, to sightsee and of course, to take ourselves to our limits trying to coordinate for Tango lessons!

Shortly, here´s my summary of Buenos Aires meeting highlights:

If there is something Argentains love, that is gathering with family & friends around food. It´s more than love actually, we´re the living encarnation of the “Power of meal times”!!!

During the GLT Meeting we went out to dinner at a reknown local chef house, where we tasted local cooking and wines. On our third night, we enjoyed a Tango Show and dinner in the most trendy hotel in town, co-designed with Philippe Stark. Don´t miss out the pictures!

Here we were discussing 2020 strategy

And here, Babs & me coming up with a new paradigm.

Then the arrival of all Americas team, where we reviewed the great work done in 2008.

& of course, we celebrated for that!
We had Laura, to inspire us in the global mission. And based on that, we agreed our workplan, and the individual and collectively actions that we are going to deliver to achieve our goals in America in 2009. I´m sure that will be another fantastic year. Focus will be in implementing more outstanding breakthrough channel ideas, being obsess in deliver media value (more for less!) and getting the best of our agencies partners.

To achieve all of this, we have to work as a team, but we need to learn how to work as a virtual team first, with people located thousand of miles of each other.

So, we had the chance to work and have fun at the same time. The Virtual America´s Team Race was the perfect solution, to work as an integrated virtual team while getting to know the most special places in the city. As we didn´t have time to see all, we split to get an overall sense from the rest. See the video!

And the award goes to…. Fito and Malu, the best dancing couple!

A special mention to Babs, that got special lessons from the teacher because he was the worst!!!

On our last day in Bs.As, and after a tough debate about Inflation in 2010, we enjoyed a great argentinian barbecue at the hotel terrace! Everybody was there…

The gorgeous girls that broke hearts of all Argentinean men… And the bad boys that did the same with women around! Finally, we were honoured at the BBQ with the visit of Rob Master, an expert in Spanish. I think is important to share with the team all the words we learnt!

ROB MASTER ENGLISH - SPANISH DICTIONARY

“Es nuestro momento” = It´s our time
“Viva la Mobile” = Long Live to mobile!
“No queremos sólo éxito. Queremos la gloria” = We don´t want just success. We want the glory!

PS: This last picture is at the balcony where Madonna sang “Don´t cry for me Argentina!”. So don´t team, no worries; for sure some day you will return to my beloved Buenos Aires!!!

I encourage you to add your posts!

Cheers!!!

Luis
